01 About

Practical experience over assumption.

Technology Research Group LLC™ is an independent applied technology research and field evaluation organization based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. We examine emerging and developing technologies through practical use, real-world observation, and technical analysis.

Our work is centered on understanding what technology can actually do outside of a specification sheet or controlled demonstration. We prepare evaluators to use technology in real-world environments, observe its performance in practical use, and develop a grounded understanding of its capabilities, limitations, and potential applications.

Engagements may involve technology education, practical instruction, demonstrations, trials, research, data collection, comparative evaluation, and technical analysis. The emphasis is consistent: direct experience, careful observation, and useful findings.

02 Capabilities

Field evaluation is where the work becomes real.

01

Field Evaluation

Real-world evaluation of technology outside controlled or theoretical conditions, with attention to practical performance, usability, strengths, and limitations.

02

Technology & Product Evaluation

Practical examination of developing technologies and products to understand their capabilities, limitations, and suitability for real-world use.

03

Demonstrations & Trials

Practical demonstrations and short-duration trials used to explore what a technology can do and determine where further evaluation may be useful.

04

Technology Education

Practical instruction that helps participants understand and effectively use emerging technologies in real-world settings.

03 Method

From technology to practical understanding.

01

Prepare

Identify the technology, establish the purpose of the work, and prepare evaluators with the practical knowledge needed to use it effectively.

02

Equip

Provide access to the relevant technology and establish the conditions necessary for practical use and observation.

03

Evaluate

Put technology into real-world environments and observe how it performs during practical use and assigned functions.

04

Understand

Use field experience and observations to develop a practical understanding of capabilities, limitations, and potential applications.

04 What matters

Direct experience. Clear findings.

Real-world conditions

Technology is evaluated where practical use actually happens, rather than relying solely on specifications or demonstrations.

Independent perspective

We maintain independence from technology manufacturers and vendors and approach technology from the perspective of practical use.

Evidence over assumption

Findings are grounded in direct experience, observation, and documented research rather than marketing claims or conjecture.

Practical understanding

The objective is useful knowledge: what works, what does not, what limitations exist, and where a technology may have value.

05 Independence & discretion

An intentionally focused organization.

Independent in perspective. Discreet in practice.

Technology Research Group LLC™ operates independently and is not affiliated with any particular technology manufacturer or vendor. Our work is driven by practical evaluation and research rather than product promotion.

The organization works with public-sector and private-sector organizations while maintaining a deliberately limited public profile. Some engagements and relationships are confidential, and we do not publicly identify clients, participants, projects, or non-public engagement details without authorization.

This approach allows the organization to maintain appropriate discretion while remaining straightforward about what we do: applied technology research, field evaluation, practical instruction, and technical analysis.

Confidentiality: Client, participant, project, equipment, and engagement information is not disclosed publicly when it is subject to confidentiality or other restrictions.

Field evaluation May 2025

Technology Education & Field Evaluation

In May 2025, Technology Research Group conducted a week-long technology education and evaluation engagement focused on the practical use of several emerging technologies.

The engagement combined hands-on instruction with practical evaluation, allowing participants to gain experience with developing technologies while providing TRG with additional insight into their usability, capabilities, and limitations.

Research note 2025

Evaluating Technology Through Practical Use

Technology Research Group continues to emphasize a simple principle in its research: technologies are often best understood through practical use rather than specifications or demonstrations alone.

Recent work has involved hands-on evaluation of emerging technologies, with attention to usability, reliability, interoperability, and practical limitations.

These experiences continue to inform TRG's approach to technology education and field evaluation.
